Another Dailit Woman Gang-Raped, Dies In UP’s Balrampur

Amid the widespread outrage over the alleged gang-rape and murder of a Dalit teen from Hathras in Uttar Pradesh, another Dalit woman was allegedly brutally gang-raped by two youths and died in Balrampur of the state while being rushed to a hospital.

The incident happened in the Gainsari area of the district, where a 22-year-old Dalit college student was raped, Balrampur Superintendent of Police Dev Ranjan Verma said on Tuesday.

A second-year B.Com student working at a private firm failed to return home in the evening, prompting her parents to start looking for her, SP further added.

The victim’s parents said she didn’t respond to calls on her mobile phone, triggering panic among family members, the police said.

“In the said case, both the named accused have been arrested after taking prompt action by the police. The thing that breaks the arms, legs and back is untrue. Please do not spread misleading news,” Balrampur Police tweeted in Hindi.

According to the victim’s parents, she had gone to a college in a nearby town to pay her fees.

The family claimed that the woman was abducted on her way back home and she was raped by at least 2 men.

However, the woman reportedly returned home shortly later in an autorickshaw in an unconscious state. She was lethally injected before she was raped, the police said, quoting her parents.

According to the victim’s mother, when she returned home, she was unable to speak and could only manage to utter the words, “I am in a lot of pain, I won’t survive.”

The victim looked dazed and in a serious condition, prompting her parents to rush her to a nearby hospital, but she died on the way, SP Verma said.

When the matter was reported to the police from the hospital, her parents alleged that their daughter was gang-raped, SP further added.
